Matt's Mission children's charity is a Birmingham charity dedicated to bring a smile to children. The charity raises funds to provide gifts to children that are in hospitals and family trips for children that are able to go on them. The charity is all about ''Making Smiles Glow'' and inspiring others to help make a difference. Matt's Mission is always looking for volunteers to support the charity at collections and events so get in touch.

Recent Campaigns

Matt's Mission charity recently provided presents for 3 children with cancer on the oncology ward at the Birmingham Children's Hospital, the hospital where Matt previously raised £12,000 skydiving and reaching the top of Kilimanjaro and putting on 3 entertainment shows for the community. Matt has just also had a memorial made for a young lad that passed away with cancer aged 6 and paid for a pink princess horse and carriage for a little baby's funeral.
Last Christmas, £8,000 has been raised at many collections including supermarkets and a  Christmas grotto which was put on. The charity also takes families to Winter Wonderland every Christmas Eve. The charity also supports other charities and helps raise funds and also put on parties for children and dress in costume to make smiles glow.

Featured Charity

Redemption Research for Health and Educational Development Society (RRHEDS)

View charity profile on Golden Giving: http://www.goldengiving.com/charity/rrheds

RRHEDS is a charitable, non-profit organization, providing services to the poor, irrespective of caste and creed, in rural and remote areas of Andhra Pradesh, India.
They provide services in health, education, rural development, water sanitation, disaster management, agriculture, HIV/AIDS, orphans, street children and housing.

Current Appeal

RRHEDS are in need of mosquito nets to protect children suffering with Dengue fever. In remote areas of India, many children suffer with Dengue Fever; they are unable to take the medicines and unable to go the hospital due to poverty. Every day nearly 250 children are admitted to nearby hospitals. Daily, between 2-5 deaths are noted in the Mandal level hospitals. As per World Health Organization (WHO) rules, there are no medicines for Dengue, and only preventative methods are employed in combatting this disease, the main form of which is the use of mosquito nets.

RRHEDS seek help in procuring mosquito nets for the prevention of Dengue fever in poverty stricken communities. An estimated 2800 children are due to benefit from this current appeal.

Featured Charity: K9 Focus

Featured Charity Post, live until January 2013
Charity Name: K9 Focus

K9Focus is a registered charity based in North Devon which has the sole aim of rescuing and rehoming abused and abandoned dogs. It is run entirely by volunteers who give their time freely and the charity relies totally on the generosity of public donations and fundraising events.
The vast majority of dogs come from Local Authority pounds where after a 7 day period they are due to be put to down. K9 Focus save these dogs' lives by rescuing them from their fates and finding them new homes with loving owners. During the last 12 months K9 Focus found good homes for over 76 dogs that, had it not be for the charity, would no longer be alive today.

Featured Charity - The Beacon of Hope Eco Heritage Trust

The Beacon of Hope Eco Heritage Trust, also known as The Hope Project, is a holistic outdoor recreation therapy centre working with people at risk of social exclusion. We are a not for profit Community Interest Company committed to reinvesting in the local community.

The organisation was set up with the purpose of creating equal opportunities in accessibility to recreational activities. There are many people who are socially excluded through being at a financial or social disadvantage. Our projects focus on helping the youth, in particular inner city kids and minority groups. We are committed to providing recreation opportunities for people who cannot otherwise access these services, in a unique and outstanding rural location.

Who We Support

We work with young black and minority ethnic people with special educational needs, for example, NEETS (Young people Not in Education Employment or Training), people of dual heritage, and inner city youth at risk of gun and knife crime. We also work with women’s groups and the ethnic communities of Cornwall and members of the transgender and intersex communities, both locally and nationally.
All religious groups are welcomed and catered for, working with the Head of Religious Studies for Cornwall schools, who is MLTB trained; we also work closely with the Cornwall Symphonia and Kernow Music.
Our project helps a cross-section of the British population and therefore we attract support from a variety of organisations. Recently an acclaimed human rights activist expressed an interest in our project; details of which will be posted to our Facebook page.

The Challenges

As a black British climber and a mountaineering enthusiast, the group’s founder Sam Farmer noticed a lack of cultural and ethnic diversity in the context of recreational activities. People are unaware of the prejudice and exclusion experienced by minority groups and young people when attempting to participate in outdoor activities. We hope to change intolerant behaviour and attitudes, but until this is achieved, we endeavour to create a sanctuary where all may enjoy recreational activities in an environment of acceptance.
Our mission is to bring together the many communities that make up Cornwall and Great Britain in a cross-pollination of subcultures, art forms and appreciations.

Activities

The Beacon of Hope Eco Trust teaches Eco Therapies at St. Agnes Beacon Hill. We facilitate character building activities like rock climbing, sculpture, painting and music. We also provide instruction in practical skills such as Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Environmental skills.

We intend to open up the beautiful Cornish landscape to clients who haven’t previously had chance to experience recreation and learning, working in a truly outstanding location with talented mentors, trained teachers and other professionals who empathise with the youth of today.
All outdoor instructors hold MLTB awards and are able to lead clients on schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Our teaching staff is fully trained and able to help clients attain local college merits, awards and certification. We also work in partnership with Real Base Training to enable clients to achieve the certification that will help them on to college and work placements
We also offer counseling, which is provided by Clear Solutions, and integration to local colleges at Truro College and the Tremough campus of University College Falmouth.

The facility is based at St. Agnes Beacon Hill, overlooking Perranporth. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, a world heritage site, a site of special scientific interest and the location of rare flora. The view from the site provides a 300 degree vista of prime Cornish countryside, covering 28 parishes and distances of fifty miles to the foothills of Bodmin moor - you can see from Padstow to St Ives along the north cliffs.

Upcoming Events

We have an exciting event organised that aims to bridge the gap between several local diversity groups so that we join forces in tackling issues of exclusion while celebrating diversity.  We have planned a camping weekend at St Agnes Beacon Hill, to allow ample time for discussions, sharing experiences thus enabling us to benefit from each other’s expertise and to support one another in addressing the issues that we all face. In bringing together a diverse array of people we aim to strengthen community ties and communications.

Due to attend is The Pinnacle Club which is England’s largest women’s climbing club, LGBT Truro which is Truro’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Community group; together with Unity Cornwall who is Cornwall’s first Black and minority ethnic group.

The event will feature bonfire, fireworks, barbeque and camping with fantastic activities to get involved in, such as a climb of Beacon Hill, cave exploration, orienteering and finally a storytelling session that reflects tales of socio-cultural unity.

Join Us Outdoors!

We are an inclusive organisation and we openly invite any readers or supporters to join us at our events, or onsite at St. Agnes Beacon Hill.
Our upcoming bonfire camping weekend is free to attend, although a contribution is graciously welcomed. We ask that all those attending are able and willing to respect all equally, as you would like to be respected yourselves.
Tents are available on request and all climbing equipment is free to use.

We look forward to meeting new people and sharing our vision for a society that is unified in celebrating acceptance and diversity.

Golden Giving's Featured Charity Campaign

Welcome to our Featured Charity Campaign. In each installment, we will be promoting one of our Charity Partners for an enhanced insight into their charitable cause and an understanding into how  they make a positive difference within the global community.
At Golden Giving, supporting charities is paramount to our mission. We are delighted to help our Charity Partners through social media sites thereby raising more awareness about the worthy causes they are each involved in. We sincerely hope that through this campaign, each charity featured will gain a wider audience and increased support for its cause.

Remember, each charity you read about would appreciate your support. If there's a particular charity that you are inspired by, you can fundraise or donate to them by finding them here: www.goldengiving.com/charities_input?searchCriteria=selection

On behalf of the Golden Giving Team, thank you for helping us create positive change. We hope you continue to enjoy our blog.

Creating Positive Change

We are Golden Giving, www.goldengiving.com , a donation and fundraising website, free to use for charities, donors and fundraisers. Golden giving is an organisation that in a very short period is creating positive social impact and is increasingly recognised by the wider public.

Donating and fundraising with Golden Giving means that more money goes to charity, compared with using a charity website, or fee charging website such as Just Giving and Virgin Money Giving. Over £11 billion was donated to charity in the UK alone, over the period 2010 to 2011. Between 5% to 10% is deducted from website donations due to business management and operational costs. If everyone had used Golden Giving, then an extra £600 million to £1 billion would have gone to charity front line causes. We need your support.

Charities rely upon fundraising sites that help them integrate and develop functionality to help raise money for their charitable cause. We are here to make the public aware that most fundraisers are unaware that fees are taken out by the donation sites, before the money is transferred to the charities. Recently charity donation site(s) have faced criticism over fees:
